First Steps Wellness Centre, with facilities in Regina SK, Winnipeg MB and Sherbrooke QC, is a specialized rehabilitation facility focusing on promoting functional gains below the level of injury through intensive, activity-based recovery methods.

Spinal Cord Injury Program

First Steps Wellness Centre (FSWC) is a specialized rehabilitation facility that was established in 2010 to promote functional recovery in individuals with a spinal cord injury. Our methods differ from traditional rehabilitation as we focus on promoting functional gains below the level of injury through intensive, activity-based recovery methods.

Neuro Rehabilitation Program

FSWC exists to fill a gap in community-based health services for neurological disorders and we will do our best to accommodate all conditions within that category.

Activity-based therapy methods have proven to be effective with several different conditions, and we are always willing to work with new clients.

Children's Program

Our Children’s Program provides a specific, intensive activity based program to work with the child as a whole in order to improve motor planning, body awareness, independence and quality of life. This program is designed to help developmentally delayed children make gains in just four weeks that could take up to a year to achieve with conventional therapy or without therapy.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Bike Program

FES is an intervention that uses a low amount of electrical current to activate deconditioned or paralyzed muscles. Small pads, called electrodes, are placed on the skin over targeted muscles of the arms, legs, and/or core to provide electrical stimulation to your peripheral nerves.

The stimulation causes the nerve to fire which evokes a muscle contraction. FES creates patterned movement in the arms, legs, or core, with the purpose of producing a functional movement. FES can be safely applied from your wheelchair.

Parasport Training

FSWC is a Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan GymFit Facility. We are a recognized facility to train elite athletes, including elite para athletes. FSWC has vast experience working with people who have neurological disabilities, so the transition to offer a program to high performance para athletes has been very successful.

FSWC is a non-profit organization with charitable status. Established in 2010, we provide innovative activity-based therapy to people with spinal cord injuries. We have also applied our methods to associated disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke and traumatic brain injuries.

FSWC programs are custom-designed for our clients using the latest research, equipment, and activity-based therapy methods. Our goal is to help improve the motor function of people who have suffered neurological trauma or who have neurological conditions. Ultimately this will help to improve their independence and overall quality of life.
